Read the following relaxation slowly. Let me take you on a journey... Imagine you are sitting on a wooden swing. You are right next to the ocean. The warm tropical breeze is flowing through your hair. You can smell the beautiful tropical flowers surrounding you. You can feel the cool spray of the waves on your skin. You taste the salty ocean water on your lips. You rock back and forth on your swing, enjoying this tropical oasis. This is my happy place. When I want relaxation or am in pain, this is where I go. You too should have a happy place. I encourage you to have a discussion with your partner. Maybe it was your honeymoon, a campfire, trip to the mountains or another memory where you can reminisce together, but you should be able to go to that place in an instant. Think about the scenery, what you saw, and what you smelled. Remember it as if you were there again. Then talk each other through that experience. I encourage you and your partner to come up with 5 places that you both can visualize together. Relaxation is key to coping with labor. If you can deeply relax now and know what that feels like, you can easily go back to that place in labor.
